TEAM PRD
Team Name: Team PRD
Team Members: Meiko (May) and Junko (June)
Combined Weight: 243 lbs
Accolades/Accomplishments
Alignment: The Most Face
Allies: N/A
Rivals: N/A
Dynamic: Best friends since childhood. Their friendship only continues to deepen well into adulthood.
Team Strengths: Kawaii: It's hard to find a team that more exemplifies what it means to be kawaii, and they make sure to use it to whatever advantage they can. Usually that amounts to little other than rallying the crowd behind them, but every little bit helps.
Loyalty: May and June have been together pretty much since they were born and despite scandal and hardship, they've never broken that bond of friendship. They have each other's back and that seems unlikely to ever change.
Team Weaknesses: Focus: Part of the whole 'being idols' thing means that often they care more about their response and reputation with fans than they do on the match at hand.
Violence: Or rather, lack thereof. They are not super big on overly violent affairs. Blood and such is definitely NOT kawaii.
Preferred Match Type(s): Tag Team
Least Favourite Match Type(s) Hardcore
Team Finishers (max. 2): Harajuku Hustle (Catching hip toss into a Sky Lift Slam)([ Sky Lift Slam)
Team/Tandem Moves:
- Sidewalk Slam (Meiko) and Leg Drop (Junko)
- Hiptoss (Meiko) to opponent then Meiko hiptosses Junko onto the downed opponent
Biography:Team PRD has meant different things over the years, but it initially stood for "PRD" and was pronounced like "Pretty", albeit with some loose pronunciation rules. PRD was the pet project of Meiko and Junko, friends from childhood who shared similar-ish names and a mutual adoration of pop idols, to the point where they wanted to be just like their favorites. While PRD never took off, they had their moment in the sun and were forced to disband, thanks mostly to Meiko moving away. Circumstances brought both women back together where they re-branded the PRD name to stand for "PuroResu Duo". Either way, the PRD name stuck based solely on them wanting it to stick. The new PRD worked a small time in Japan to get more hands-on experience and to make PRD a famous name again. With the PRD name meaning little in Japan and even less overseas, PRD aims for a new sort of idol idolization: the love of wrestling fans.
Neither June nor May quite remember who came up with the idea to become idols first, but what they do remember is that they were practically inseparable in their youth. It helped that they were from the same neighborhood and had names just made for cute nicknames between them. Despite their initial dreams to being idols in the musical sense, they have since decided to bring their brand of idol to the world of wrestling. It was May who came up with the idea and got them started, first as a 'special guest' at a small show in Tokyo that turned into a brief stint.
Local celebrities who dare to dream to become more than just a flash in the pan, they both have a passion for the sport though it is far stronger in Mayi. June's passion is more towards the fame side of things, though she remains blissfully unaware of the uphill battle she's in for.
Despite the Harajuku references in their repertoire, only June can actually claim to be from Harajuku, having spent a lot of her youth there trying to get in the popular FRUiTS magazine. May moved out of Japan in her teens due to her father's job, but once she graduated high school she returned to Japan and attempted to reunite with June. Their reunion eventually happened and their common goal was altered to the current course they remain on.
PRD did manage to find success internationally when they signed with Girl Power Wrestling where they became known as being 'Undefeated in the Ring, Undefeated in Kawaii' up until their first defeat. Unfortunately, the popularity PRD had going came crashing down due to the one thing that idols wish to avoid at all costs: a scandal. May was photographed hugging and entering the home of an older man which set rumors and accusations flying. That Meiko was just getting extra gutiar lessons from her old teacher didn't matter. In the eyes of the PRD Faithful (as they call themselves), this was unforgivable. It was then Junko who wound up taking the heat from Meiko by outing herself in a press conference. While this news took the heat away from May it wound up causing controversy - that an idol in Japan could be anything other than the ideal image of the ideal...idol was unheard of.
After a stint in their home country where they caught the ire of darn near the entire promotion because of a massive difference in ideals, PRD has found that their stock is rising once again in both the wrestling world and the idol world. So again they enter the fray, traveling to yet another foreign country to make their mark as the world's most premiere international wrestling idols.
