Close up on a heart monitor in a hospital room:
‘Bee-Beep… Bee-Beep…Bee-Beep……’
A nurse enters dressed in white with a red cross upon her little hat.
“How is our patient today? Someone partied a bit too hard last night, hmmm? We’ll get you feeling better in no time. Got some movies for your stay…. 300, Thor, Freddy vs. Jason. I just need to take a few readings and then I’ll be on my way.”
The patient opens one eye and sizes up the nurse: dark hair in a bun under her hat, uniform definitely not standard issue. Short skirt, fishnets, and a rather low cut top made the green-haired woman in the bed lick her lips. As the nurse bent over to check some instrument settings, the patient’s hand slinked out of the bed and goosed her. The nurse didn’t jump, however, just turned and gave Night Train a sly grin.
“Night Train has the best insurance going, Nurse Coy does a body good!”
Dani Coy stood and smoothed her skirt before patting Night Train on the arm, before preparing to take her pulse.
“That’s right. But you need to get your rest, you have a big day ahead of you.”
Night Train comically blew a hot breath and then addressed the camera directly.
“Hello You Kay Double You Effers… just as Night Train get special treatment from Dani, fans in Leeds get special treat meant just for you soon enough. Taking the pulse of Night Train is like taking pulse of nation. Hearts quicken at thought of tag team match, in which two must function as one for success.”
Dani seemed satisfied with her pulse rate, nodding.
“Tagging is about trust, remember trust, Gaia? Me trusted you wholeheartedly and it led to tag team championship for us. But it seemed that trust only went one way, you only endure Night Train in Hunt By Night like pesky pebble in shoe. Could not wait to cast off shoe and toss pebble aside. But cast off pebble did not sink to bottom of lake to fester, it kept rolling downhill gaining size and momentum.”
Night Train moved hands apart to emphasize size growing.
“Night Train is not pebble to annoy, now Night Train is boulder… not of over the shoulder holder variety either, mama. I bear down on you, and you not Indiana Jones, you not escape. Me owe you for breaking shoulder, and for breaking Night Train’s heart. Me watching these movies to gain inspiration and focus. Valky is intense but she not falter in allegiance, like you. Me think she probably hunt better than the Hunt in Hunt By Night, even. Guy Dude Galanos and Magnum PI Wocka Wocka are just monsters. Valkyrie and Me you can call the Van Helsing Twins for one time only, we hunt monsters. Unlike Dani, it not be pretty. Temperatures will rise!”
Just then Dani turned and snapped a rubber glove, holding a comically huge (rectal?) thermometer.
Flatline…..

[Tonight here we find Magdalena sat demurely on a stone fountain's edge, body facing us but head turned to peer into the water. She fidgets with something in her hand. Not a fidget spinner.]
"Connections define mortality. Once I rejected them, but no longer. And what I have found is that no connection exists by itself. Disturb one..."
[The Canoness calls attention to her hands - there's a flower in it, a tulip perhaps. She pulls a petal free, and her eyes follow as a second and third fall out and float into the fountain.]
"...disturb more. I welcome Gaia into the fold, and find myself a new enemy in Train Ayano By Night, who I am told is not what spoiled Western children term a 'transformer' despite the vehicular name. I did not intend this quarrel - I did not know she existed - but just as my cause is Gaia's cause, so Gaia's is mine. It matters little to me why Gaia finds you offensive, fraulein Ayano, just that she does. If I can end your interference at Power Play, I shall do so."
[Magdalena's eyes go down to the flower again, frown lines creasing her brow.]
"Valkyrie, on the other hand, is a problem all my own. Gaia remembers her from GPW, but I do not. An issue of timing mostly."
[Thin smirk picks at her mouth's corners.]
"Death got in the way. But going through that opened my eyes, and with this new knowledge I find myself infuriated by the opposition of anyone claiming the title 'Valkyrie'. According to the false mythology fuelling the daydreams of generations of Nordic fools, the valkyrie would travel among the dying and choose the worthy - warriors, mostly - for a better afterlife."
[She snorts.]
"This is...Pferdescheiße, I do not know a better term. Fiction. Not even convincing fiction. And worse to me, for you see, I know death, and I know that there is no afterlife. There certainly are not multiple options based on the vagaries of 'worth' or 'honour'. There is just death and it reveals the truth of us, by reducing us all to the nothing we sprang from."
[She tears out more petals, and sets them adrift in the water.]
"I will not suffer a false prophet spreading her spiel in my path. Valkyrie will be crushed - by my hand or Gaia's, it matters not - and her treacherous voice will be silenced. Then, as her will saps from her aching body, she and I will have a good, long, likely one-sided conversation about exactly where she, and everyone else, is going. Because death does not pick favourites, Valkyrie. Wherever you started, however you lived..."
[Magdalena points into the fountain, and the camera follows the gesture over to a drain grille where all the petals have drifted - now crumpled, withered and darkened without a plant attached to them.]
"...the rot gets us all in the end."
[Fin.]

Kneeling. An unusual position to see Valkyrie in for someone tall. Around her, stood various students of the Omega Academy. Each held a board, painted to look like a shield and held a two by four, banging them together. War drums.
“The Spartan. The two of us a dying breed, relics of a past forgotten to most, barely covered as they should be preserved. The Spartans were warriors, students of the Agoge from the day they were born, the healthy raised in packs to be warriors, the weak abandoned to die. The Hoplites of Sparta were feared, respected, part of a team. The spear wall as strong as the man next to you. Yet Gaia, you have a history of turning your back on a team don't you? The original incarnation of the G.O.D and then Hunt By Night. The Ephialtes. The Betrayer of the Three Hundred who was expecting to be rewarded, yet was marked for death.”
Valkyrie raised her head, pounding a fist into her open palm.
“Then we have the Heretic. The cultist leader. Some amongst many of the worlds faiths would call you a Godless Heathen, a term I'm all to familiar with myself, yet when someone who follows an Abrahamic faith calls me out, I tell them I need both my hands to count the gods I worship. My prayer ground, the squared circle. My opponents, sacrifices, my own being, a potential sacrifice that comes with honour. I've fall as many times as I've been the victor, I've been through hel in the ring, stabbed once, carved up, yet I keep coming back for more. As long as my heart can pump blood and I can draw breath, if my legs can hold me up, I will stand up.”
Another pound, fist to palm, the beating of the shields getting louder and faster.
“When the bell rings, the alliance of the Spartan and the Heretic will face off with a trueblooded Viking Shieldmaiden and the Night Train, a product of the Japanese Puroresu Dojo system if it was sponsored by Smirnoff, and backed up by an airhead who can actually control the bounce bounce long enough for her to unleash the beer muscles. The X Factor we could have used a week ago, told to keep to the back because hey, we all knew that shit was going to blow up faster than a Squeaky Pop Test. For Magdalena's benefit, that's to do with the science thing you probably deny happens!”
By now, the Omega students were creating a lot of noise, and the Dane was pumped up, she rose to her feet, unleashing a warrior battle cry in Danish.
“Blod og kranier!”
And on cue, with no visible lures, Lukas and Mjoll, the Danes Ravens, landed on each shoulder, both cawing loudly ”Blood!” ”Skulls!” as Hroki, the wolflike Jämthund, charged in and let out a howl as the chants and howls faded out with the screen...
Lad dem begge brænde...

“Valkyrie, you seem to remember what happened back in Girl Power Wrestling quite differently than perhaps anyone else may,” began that familiar Grecian accent as the scene faded in from black to an empty locker room with naught but Gaia Galanos sitting at a bench with that blood-stained towel over her head. “I will be the first to admit to you and the rest of the world that I did, indeed, turn my back on Night Train. I did it to teach her a lesson; nothing more, nothing less. I was sick and tired of the mockery she brought to this sport and the constant unnecessary risks she would not only take with her own body, but also put my own body in harm’s way in the process.” “Now, dear Vee,” she continued, tilting her head up just enough that we could see most of her facial features; her eyes, however, remained veiled in darkness, “can you truly and honestly sit there and claim that I turned my back on the Goddesses of Dominance? From day one in GPW, I made it clear I wanted to be the best, but the moment I tried to reach for the gold, you and Isis attacked me, didn’t you?” Gaia’s face cocked in a way that we could now see one of her icy blue eyes glaring out at the camera lens. “Tell me, Dane,” she demanded calmly as she slanted her head to the other side, revealing her hidden eye and concealing her other eye in one fluid motion, “why did you betray me? Because that is what actually happened, and I know the answer.” She waved her index finger at the camera, knowingly. The dim light allowed us to witness the smirk that broke across her face. “You and Isis betrayed me to teach me a lesson so, the truth is, you’re no better than me.” “It’s a good thing Night Train wasn’t around during the GPW days otherwise she might think twice about trusting you. But, I don’t really care either way how much you trust one another because I know, one way or the other, I can trust Magdalena to keep fighting and not to take unnecessary risks. Neither of you can say the same. Magdalena accepts me and nurtures me.” Abruptly, Gaia’s face rose completely out of the darkness. Those two icy orbs pierced the camera lens as if shooting icicles at it. “And, that’s why her and I cannot fail at Power Play. We aren’t going to just fight the two of you. We are going to punish you for any and all of your transgressions.” A soft, thoughtful smile appeared on Gaia’s features as she spoke of Magdalena once more, “you know what else makes Magdalena a superior partner to you, Night Train? You know that she’s ready to punish those who deserve it when she is finished speaking.” “O sweet silence,” Galanos sighed happily.
