OOC: I started writing this RP when I was anticipating that the match for the Broadcast Championship at Anniversary of Aggression would be a one-one match between Lowri and Noah Reigner. That has of course since changed, but rather than abandon the RP, I decided to finish it off, and instead post it as a CD RP. Enjoy.
‘Lowri, stop!’
The thud of an object hitting the floor is then heard, before the scene fades in to show Lowri, on the morning of Thursday 2nd March, stood in a gym somewhere in Cardiff, with a barbell at her feet; stood opposite Lowri is one-time UKWF guest Natalie McKinley.
Natalie: ‘What are you doing? You know that isn’t the proper technique to use; do you want to hurt yourself?’
A silent Lowri looks down at the floor.
Natalie: ‘What’s wrong, Lowri? You’re not putting your heart into this, but you need to, if you’re going to stand a chance of beating Noah Reigner.’
Lowri looks up at Natalie.
Lowri: ‘That’s what’s wrong: I don’t think I can beat him - I couldn’t beat the former Broadcast Champion, so what chance do I have of beating the current champion?’
Natalie does not say anything, instead choosing to allow Lowri to vent.
Lowri: ‘I know usually I seem like I don’t let setbacks affect me, but deep down, there was always going to be a limit to how many times I could keep coming up short before it would start to affect my self-belief, and after what happened on Tuesday, I’ve now reached that limit.’
Natalie remains quiet.
Lowri: ‘You know, prior to our match, James Edwards said I didn’t have much to worry about, and that he was the one with everything to lose, but he was wrong. I told everyone that match was a must-win for me, and then I went and fucked it up. I didn’t just lose the match - I also lost my confidence.’
Natalie lets out a sigh.
Natalie: ‘Lowri, I know things haven’t been going in your favour lately, I’m not going to try to pretend otherwise, but you shouldn’t beat yourself up about it - it’s not as if the losses you’ve suffered have been one-sided; you pushed Gaia Galanos all the way…’
Lowri: ‘But I lost.’
Natalie continues, in spite of Lowri’s interruption.
Natalie: ‘...and you were on the verge of defeating James Edwards…’
Lowri: ‘But I still lost - not really the ideal manner in which to prepare for a title match, is it?’
Natalie sighs again.
Natalie: ‘So what then? Are you going to offer to renounce your shot at the Broadcast Championship, and disappoint all of those fans that cheer for you and chant your name so loudly?’
Lowri shakes her head vehemently.
Lowri: ‘No, I couldn’t possibly do that.’
Now it is Lowri’s turn to sigh.
Lowri: ‘Despite the struggles that I’ve had in the ring, the support that I’ve received from the fans has been amazing.’
Natalie: ‘I’ll say! I think you might even be rivaling your friend Blaise for the tag of most popular wrestler in the UKWF.’
Natalie takes a couple of steps towards Lowri.
Natalie: ‘Lowri, Gaia Galanos was spot on when she said that you’re a natural - you’re not a one-dimensional wrestler like me, you’re gifted. You’re going to get that big win you crave, and you’re going to get it soon - you’re too talented a wrestler not to. And what better occasion for you to get that big win, than in a match in which there is a title at stake?’
Lowri: ‘Yeah, that would be the perfect moment to end my run of losses in the UKWF.’
Natalie: ‘Exactly! And before that, you’ve got your debut in FGA this Saturday, against an opponent who’s in even worse form than you. So go to Memphis, get a win under your belt, get some confidence back, then next week you can put all of your effort into getting ready for your match with Noah Reigner, and trying to become the new Broadcast Champion.’
Lowri nods.
Lowri: ‘Okay, Natalie; thanks.’
She then smiles at Natalie.
Natalie: ‘No problem, hun.’
Natalie smiles back at her.
Natalie: ‘Now, I know you’ve got to travel to Heathrow later, to get on a plane and head for Memphis, but don’t think I’m going to let you leave here without finishing your workout. So come on, let’s do it properly this time.’
Lowri’s smile widens.
Lowri: ‘Sure thing, Natalie.’
Natalie takes a couple of steps backwards, and as Lowri bends down to grasp the barbell, with a smile on her face and looking more like her usual self again, the scene fades to black.
