It's backstage just a few minutes after the conclusion of UKWF's Wind of Change. Most of the wrestlers have yet to clear out, but the backstage area is still a sea of activity as the crew has started taking apart of equipment to pack for the journey home. The first ever UKWF North Sea Champion, Alex Kincaid, limps his way down a hallway. Two weeks after a brutal ladder match to claim his title, Kincaid still looks like he's just been through a war. Every step is heavy. He winces each time he takes a step. The belt hangs loosely in his hand. Just as he's about to turn a corner, he suddenly finds UKWF interviewer Katherine Kensington standing in his path. He raises an eyebrow, more than a little irritated, as she begins to speak.
Katherine Kensington: Ladies and gentlemen, I am backstage after UKWF's Wind of Change with a UKWF web exclusive. I'm here with our North Sea Champion, Kincaid. First of all, congratulations on your title victory.
Kincaid gives a quick nod, but it's clear he knows what's coming next.
Katherine Kensington: But that's not to say the title win didn't involve some controversy. Could you give us-
Kincaid interrupts her, shaking his head.
Kincaid: Controversy? For the last two weeks, every night I wake up feeling like my leg is on fire. Every night I go stumbling into my kitchen, I strap a big old ice pack to my leg until the damn thing goes numb and it STILL doesn't stop the pain. Look, I know I just got here. I know I was the last person people expected to win that match. But I won it, all the same. And there's no controversy there. There's just a new champion who wants a chance to defend his belt. See, the way I hear it, Valkyrie thinks that she got screwed. And trust me, I have the utmost respect for her. She's helped me out in the past, we've teamed together, there's no one on this roster I would rather defend this-
He puts the belt up over his shoulder, clapping it on the face of the title a few times.
Kincaid: -This beautiful title against than her.
Katherine seems a little confused but what he's just said, giving a quizzical little smile and shaking her head.
Katherine Kensington: But if that's true, why not defend the title tonight? It would have been a chance to address...
She trails off as Kincaid's wife and manager, Alyssa, walks in from off camera and wraps her arm around her husbands waist. She looks up at him, at his title, and then over at Katherine
Alyssa: Hi Katherine. I've heard the talk about the controversy. And, like Alex, I'm very sympathetic to anyone who thinks they didn't receive an honest chance at the belt last week. Because I actually disagree with my husband. I understand what the controversy is. It was dangerous. A lot of unpredictable elements. No one in there got a fair chance. So I'm going to look for-
Katherine can't help herself and she cuts Alyssa off, politely but firmly.
Katherine Kensington: With all due respect, Mrs. Kincaid I was at ringside last week and I saw-
Now Alyssa gets a little heated. She frowns, moving away from her husband. Alex seems puzzled but doesn't go to stop her as she takes a step into the interviewers space.
Alyssa: I don't what you THINK you saw last week, Katherine. But we reviewed that tape over and over again and I can't see anything on it that shows anything other than an unfortunate accident. And as for your question of why Alex didn't defend the title tonight, look at him. He's in a ton of pain. And yeah, he didn't wrestle tonight. Because I told him not to. It would be irresponsible of me both as his wife AND his manager to let him go out there and make his knee worse. So I told him to wait. And I think that it's-
Now Alex steps back into the way, putting a hand between the two women and sliding in.
Kincaid: Whoa, whoa. Okay. Let's bring it down here. Look, I took advice from someone I trust and took a show to heal myself up. But I came to the show. And yeah, I get the feeling that right now? I'm not too popular in our locker room. But I don't run from a challenge. I face my problems head on. So at Violent Valentine's, I'm going to clear the air with Valkyrie once and for all. You want answers, Katherine? All you have to do is wait until next show.
With that, the two of them walk away from the interviewer. The last shot is of a concerned looking Katherine Kensington before we fade away.
