An official document released earlier today saw UKWF management do away with intensifying rumours about their expansion by officially announcing their plans for the upcoming year.
The first of the two main changes the rapidly-growing promotion will be implementing for 2017 has to do with a concerted effort to reach a broader audience across the United Kingdom. To this effect, management has officially announced that UKWF will expand its scope beyond their home base of London, and aim for nationwide exposure. The first step towards reaching this objective will come in the form of a UK-wide tour, to begin as soon as the company returns from hiatus. Specific dates and venues for this tour were not made available in the document, but it is thought the first leg of it will encompass the neighbouring counties of Kent, Surrey, Essex, and Hertfordshire.
The second part of the company's official announcement detailed the other major change to come into effect in 2017, namely the creation of two new Championship belts to complement the existing singles and tag team Championships. The first, to be dubbed the North Sea Championship, will be contested for with the same frequency as the existing singles belt (now called the United Kingdom Championship), while the second - dubbed the Broadcast Championship - is to be defended at every live event. According to the same document, three successful defences of either belt would entitle the reigning Champion to a further Championship opportunity: three defences of the Broadcast Title would give access to a North Sea Championship shot, while three defences of the North Sea belt would entitle the Champion to challenge for the United Kingdom Championship.
It is thought that both these titles will see an inaugural Champion crowned at UKWF's first event of 2017, although lists of participants in either match have yet to be finalised.
The document concluded by making note of a schedule change for UKWF live events, which will see them move from Sunday nights to Tuesday nights. This measure is thought to have been taken to accommodate international schedules for certain members of the roster.
