The bright colors and catchy sounds of an anime intro are heard in the background, watched somewhat intently by Junko, though she doesn’t seem excited at the episode; while Meiko plunks a few strings on her guitar with her gaze pointed at the ground. Even with the upbeat sounds from the television, the mood in the studio-slash-residence is rather somber. One of the duo is just better at hiding it, but both are sharing similar thoughts.
<Could you turn it down?> Meiko requests in their native tongue, not in any mood for generic sounding songs about nonsense. <You don’t even like that show.>
<You do. Or you used to.> Junko’s reply came with a lowering of volume and getting off the floor to approach the sullen Meiko, offering a much-needed arm on the shoulder. Simple gestures.
<What’s wrong?>
<What are we doing?>
<Not watching anime.>
<No, I mean...you know what I mean. We’re a joke. A joke!>
<We’re not->
<YES WE ARE> Meiko’s interruption and raising of her voice causes Junko to retract her hand and Meiko to jump up from her stool, her guitar falling to the floor with a plunked thud. Meiko takes a moment to collect herself before following up. <We’ve been a joke for a while now. You remember what people called us, called you, in our home country even. And before that still, but at least then we had...something. We’re a joke now. A joke no one is laughing at and a joke no one takes seriously. And you’re FINE with it.>
<Meiko…>
<We can’t win. We constantly let others walk over us. We’re just barking dogs who don’t bite. And no matter how cute a dog is, if all it does is bark people get tired and annoyed with them. How can we continue pretending like we’re okay with everything? PRD used to mean something and now it just means….pretty rotten duds.>
<Do you want to stop? Do you want to...start a solo career?>
<I want us to mean something again. Remember when we had things to prove? Things to say? Remember when we were undefeated? Aren’t you tired of being mocked and shunned? It bothers me, and I know it bothers you.>
<Of course it does. It’s hard. So...so hard to let everyone...and ourselves down. But you remember the rules....you remember…>
<Always smile, I know. But how can I when there’s nothing to smile about? When we’re frustrated? When...when we’re losers.>
<This...this means a lot to you, Meiko.>
<It doesn’t to you? Then what the hell are we even doin->
Meiko’s rising frustration is silenced by Junko pulling the fiery member into a sudden hug. It’s enough to calm Meiko down, at least for the moment.
<I think we should talk.>
<It’s all we seem to do lately.>
<No, not just to them. We should talk to each other. We shouldn’t have to feel like this. We can do better. We can BE better.>
<Thank you...Junko.>

A familiar setting, with the normally plucky duo of PRD sitting on stools, though in an unusual change of pace both girls are wearing rather neutral expressions. Where normally they had smiles, even through the worst of it, they appear more introspective, more serious. And yet still remaining true to their core selves...
A passing look between the two of them, a nod, and it’s back to facing forward, to address the masses.
”Konnichiwa, we are PRD and we are sorry. Sorry because we have let everyone down. Sorry because we have let ourselves down. Sorry that we even have to say sorry.”
”PRD was always meant to inspire and entertain, to show people that even the cutest and unlikeliest people can do anything they set their hearts to. And somewhere along the way we forgot that. We forgot what made PRD...well...PRD.”
It’s easy to blame others, to pin the blame on the people that belittled us but it’s our fault too. We let them get under our skin. We let them anger us and we let them make us bark.”
”Barking dogs do not bite.”
”Instead of being ourselves and doing what made us so effective, we kept trying to be like everyone else, kept trying to be something...someone else. But sometimes it takes reaching the bottom to know how to climb up again.”
”Right now we feel like we are at the bottom. We have not done well for ourselves, and we are the only ones to blame. We have not forgotten the insults given to us and we will never forget them, but the barking dog never bites.”
”You’ve said that already.”
”I really like dogs.”
”...Regardless, we needed to look inward, not outward, if we had any hope of being the idols we once were. Being guided by anger solved nothing and only made us look bad. Our opponents this time have known what it’s like to be at the top. They were champions once and probably want to be again. Love and Hate...We’re up against them because they have something to prove, and what better way to prove it then by starting with the weakest link?”
”But we have just as much to prove. To ourselves. To everyone that still thinks we are just jokes. Let it be known that it started here. It started with the unlikely pair looked at mean old former champions and defeated them! It started here. The thing that made us who we are. The element we lost and found. The secret weapon that will bring Love and Hate and everyone else down to the ground. All it takes is this one victory and we will have it here at last.”
"It's going to happen. Love and Hate were champions. We've handled their kind before, and we're gonna do it again. No more anger. No more letting meanies influence us. Against Love and Hate and forever going forward..."
”THE KAWAII COMES BACK!”
