Tucked between two racks of clothing with a few bags dangling from the arms of Sophia Halter. Stores like these made her alien with the homely clothing that hung off her frame in oversize drapes, the only thing form fitting were a pair of hole ridden jeans. Today had been a casual day of shopping, an activity to get her out of the hotel. Lately, becoming stir-crazy came regularly and curing it was never difficult. A simple trip around local parks were suitable for her, something to physically move, occupy the mind, but her companion wasn’t as easy.
Sophia stepped in front of the changing room, head tilted to the side, “Jason..? Are you almost done in there?”
“Can’t rush greatness,” came his reply from the dressing room. A moment or two later, his voice came again, “there we go,” he said, before adding, “come in and look.”
“Okay…” Sophia agreed and stepped inside before seeing Jason CruZe standing there bare-naked save for his newly won SSWA Pure Championship belt covering his nether regions and the beanie he had decided already that he was going to buy on his head. Everything else he had decided to try on was scattered about the bench in the changing room.
“Well, what do you think,” he inquired with a cheeky grin. “Like the beanie?”
No blush, no nervousness, no sign of bewilderment, but Sophia offered a miniature smile. “Yes, I do..” Their friendship had evolved to a place of enduring comfort. She would handle these antics, he accepting of her illness. Sophia bent down to scoop up one of the shirts, a blue cotton blend, to rub it to her cheek. Completely avoiding his nudity because, honestly, this wasn’t the first time she had seen him like this. “I like this one…”
“Same, but,” he said, patting the Pure Championship, “this gold is much shinier.” As if putting a period on his proclamation he sent a wink her way.
“I guess so…” she mumbled, one hand kept the shirt to her cheek and its twin reached out to poke the Pure title. “It is… I bet you’re happy to have it. I wasn’t surprised when you told me, I knew you could do it.” Sophia glanced him up and down, “....Are you going to get dressed?”
“Yeah,” he said as Sophia left the changing room, giving him a little wave as she did. After closing the door, it didn’t take Jason more than another couple minutes to change and emerge from the dressing room.
“So, Miss Impatience,” he said with a grin, carrying the clothes he decided to buy, including the shirt Sophia had particularly liked with him toward the register. “Where to next?” He adjusted the backpack he was carrying with him that held the Pure title. Both of them stepped into the line at the register as they talked.
“We could get some food?” Sophia asked placing one dress onto the counter to purchase. She ignored the cashiers attempt at talking to the two of them. “I’m hungry…”
“Food it is,” he said, placing his stuff on the counter as well, “I got this.” Before Sophia could resist or otherwise try to pay for her own stuff, Jason already had his wallet out and was paying the cashier the cost of the few items they had picked out. Within moments, they were out the door and headed toward the food court. “So, turning heads in the UK,” he inquired with a smirk.
Sophia interrupted the conversations heading with an abrupt, “Jason… Your girlfriend doesn’t like me much....” Her eyes glued themselves to the payment beneath their feet. A soft huff left her nostrils. “I hate her.” She declared with a fidget. It sounded jealous especially with the venomous tone. “She tried to intimidate me… Force me back into some corner for no reason…I don’t understand her motives but I can’t let it continue. It’s distracting.”
“Uh,” he stalled, “I don’t really know what either of you want me to do. She’s brought her complaints to me before,” he pointed out, “but I told her you’re my best friend and that she’s not gonna’ break that up.” While Jason did like Aurora, Sophia was far too important of a friend to him to allow Aurora to just mandate that he stop talking to her. “Do you want me to tell her to stop or something?”
For once a more mature air took over, “No, wouldn’t do any good and she might cause drama ...I don’t want you to do anything…It isn’t fair of me to ask anything of you.” Sophia brows furrowed. “Just a warning… I guess. She’s an opponent, a problem, and I don’t show those any mercy. If I need to… I’ll break her.”
For a long moment, Jason was silent. When he broke the silence, he chuckled nervously, “can you at least leave some of her for me? She’s the one who takes care of me at night.” He nudged her suggestively with an overly animated wink.
Sophia sighed. “Don’t think she’d do anything different. I’m sure Aurora and that family would likely tear me apart if given enough incentive…” She frowned pivoting to throw both arms around his waist and shove her face against his chest, catching Jason off-guard.
“Um,” he hummed, giving her an awkward pat on the back, “as long as you don’t beat her down outside of the ring, I guess, you can do what you want, but, seriously, don’t kill my girlfriend or maim her,” he stated then added, “please?”
“I make no promises.” Sophia grumbled but conceded, “I’ll try not to unless she starts it then I...” A sigh, “I won’t maim her…” She slumped a bit at the realization that for his sake she would have to have some restraint. Her eyes squinted, “Only for you” And with that he was released from the random embrace as they continued on their way.
“Thanks,” he said as they walked, reaching the cafeteria almost instantly after their continuance of walking. “What are you hungry for,” he asked, scanning the various available restaurants.
“That one.” Sophia picked a random place for them. The two of them were adventurous so she knew that he’d be more than happy to try anything. She took his hand to tug him along with a chuckle.
He smiled but an uneasiness tucked deep within her gut. This situation wasn’t ideal for anyone. Sophia hated being provoked because it always led to chaos. Broken limbs… Law suits… Psychiatric Hospitals… No amount of bracing could prepare her for that outcome. Sophia had finally found comfort in a person, in a home, and now in a place to wrestle. Naive hope that this time would be different. Her relationship with Jason, the very friendship she treasured dearly, had created this very conflicted. Aurora was an intelligent woman, stubborn, and would stop at nothing to gain this victory.
Sophia knew her own limitations were nonexistent when it came to ‘combat’. She feared the conclusion this feud might bring for either one of them. Either way it negatively affect Jason… which she couldn’t stomach. How far would this drag them? What lengths would they go? Despite the swirling questions, it didn’t matter right now. She would enjoy the day off and concern herself the issues tomorrow.
